Comments from a “Fan”

The photo above is a Comment I received recently at a Club after a truly great night of Comedy. If you can’t read it, it says:

I brought my mom and sister to the show- they’re first time here. The first guy-the “Indian”-was very offensive.

Honestly, I understand that I’m probably not for everyone, since I do talk about Race, Social Issues, Gay Issues, Religion and so on, so the offensive part doesn’t bother me all that much. The thing that bothers me is the quotation marks around the word, Indian! I’m not a faux-paux Indian! I’m the real deal. I was born there, I lived there and Immigrated here over 15 years ago! When I tell you I’m an Indian gentlemen, it’s not an act. I’m not going to break and go, “Nope, just kidding, I’m actually from Beriut! It’s vengeance time, bitches!” or “Sorry about those shenanigans folks, I’m actually from Whales. Are those cheeky brown bastards just silly! Why can’t they just fix my computer and move on back to the land cows and blue gods! Am I right my white bretheren?!” No, none of that. If you pay attention to what I’m saying my aim is for you to get something out of the time I’m on stage, and to disarm some of the silly things we believe as society.

So I write to the Sir or Madam that had this complaint:

The fact that you called me an “Indian” sarcastically is the most offensive part of the evening you chose to take part it. Since you are pretending like race doesn’t exist or is not an important part of what makes us who we are and helps us define what we are, makes you the racist and offensive part of the show. I’m sorry for your narrow-minded world view. I’m offended by you. Thank you for comment and I hope you enjoyed the rest of your evening.
